YEAR 5 JUST SHADE IT!
YEAR 5 4 YEAR 6 3
02.07.03
In another close encounter the determination of Year 5 eventually came out on top.
It was the youngsters who scored first in an even first half. Striker James Foyle made the most of an excellent, defence-splitting pass from Matthew Fargie, to fire the ball home. Year 6 were back in it before half time, though, when pressure forced a defensive error which resulted in an own goal. 1-1 at the break.
Mr Walker's half time talk plus some changes seemed to inspire Year 5 at the start of the second period. They came out all guns blazing. It wasn't long before they had raced to a 3-1 lead in a sustained spell of pressure. Danny Evans, who had a cracking match, scored a fine second and Jake Walpole pinched a poacher's goal, when he was in the right place at the right time as the goalkeeper spilled the ball.
However, Year 6 were not going to let the game slip away quite so easily. They fought back, first through a Thomas Page goal and then Robert Taylor drew the scores level when he reacted quickest as the keeper failed to hold on to the ball.
It looked like the match was destined for a draw, but just before the end Danny Evans rounded off a fine performance by scoring his second and the winning goal for Year 5.
This now makes the competition 2-2 with two games left to play. It's certainly going to be interesting.
