LATE WINNER FOR YEAR 5

YEAR 5  2       YEAR 6  1

18.06.03

From the very start this was an even contest with neither side ever really dominating. The game ebbed and flowed throughout.

As was the case last week Year 5 scored first. With only 5 minutes gone Captain Matthew Fargie made an intelligent run from right to left to receive a throw on and found himself in the opposing penalty area. He turned and drove on towards goal. As he unleashed a good shot a challenge from a Year 6 defender deflected the ball and gave Joseph Galvin no chance in goal.

Despite the best endeavours of Year 6 to draw level the score remained 1-0 up until half time and then for much of the second period. Neither side looked like creating another clear cut opening. Then Year 6 pressure finally told with only 10 minutes to go.

Samuel Leader got himself in the right place at the right time. When a cross from the right came over he was on hand to slot the ball home and pull the scores level at 1-1.

But Year 5 were not to be denied and to their immense credit battled back to apply some pressure of their own. Another throw in by Jack Slater put the ball in the danger zone and when Year 6 failed to clear it Timothy Anderson popped up to sneak the ball into goal and give the younger side a famous 2-1 victory with only minutes to spare.

This sets the competition up nicely, with Year 6 rather stung by today's result and wanting to re-establish control, and Year 5 spirits clearly lifted.

Well played everyone.
