Text Box: DISTRICT B TEAM

For the first time this season, there was a second District team representing
our Association.

On Saturday 1st November the first match for this team took place at Mayplace Playing Fields, Crayford, against Bexley Primary Team. After a close, exciting game, which produced some very good football in cold and windy conditions, the Orpington team were triumphant 1-0, Teddy Stevens’ shot sealing the win late on in the game.

On Saturday 15th November the second match for this team took place at Orpington Rovers Football Club, against Croydon. It was great to see this team perform so well against such strong opposition, losing narrowly 3-2, Lewis Keith notching both goals.

The third match for the Primary Team was played at Waterers Park in Knaphill, against Woking B. Orpington made a flying start when Joe Wall scored with his first touch playing for the District. By half-time, further goals had been scored by Joe, Oliver Sargent (2), Cem Tumkaya and Kieran Lindsay. Sam Watson struck in the second half to make the final score 7-0.

The Primary Team made it 3 wins out of 4 on Saturday 20th December, when they played Gravesham at Orpington Rovers Football Club. This side are improving all the time, especially in their team play. Although Gravesham opened the scoring in the first half, Orpington equalised soon after, 1-1 at half-time. The second half produced a flurry of goals with the final score 6-4 to Orpington, the home scorers being Lewis Keith (2), Louis Metcalf, Tyrell Simpson-Taylor (2) and Joe Wall.

Saturday 24th January 2009 saw the return match with Bexley Primary team, Orpington playing confident passing football and Bexley matching them almost stride for stride. A very entertaining game resulted ins 3-2 win for Orpington, Louis Metcalf scoring all three goals.

Gravesham provided the opposition on Saturday 14th February 2009, and once again an entertaining match was played by two teams producing fluent football. There could have been many more goals, but the spectators had to be content with a 2-2 draw, both of Orpington’s successful efforts being scored by Oliver Sargent.

THE PRIMARY SQUAD THEN WENT ON A HALF-TERM TOUR TO THE WEST COUNTRY, WHERE THEY PLAYED GLOUCESTER B ON TUESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY AND NEWBURY B THE FOLLOWING DAY.

The Gloucester match was played at Longlevens. Two good defences prevented any goals being scored in the first half, but strikes from Reagan McCarthy and Oliver Sargent put Orpington two goals up, before a stunning shot from Robins reduced the arrears for the home side. There followed a lot of pressure from Gloucester, but Orpington managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory.

Newbury hosted the second match of the tour at Woolton Hill. This was a very open game, although the half-time score was only 1-1, thanks to a superb save from Adam Curtis in the Orpington goal. Many chances were created by both teams, and, although several different players nearly scored, Orpington’s successes
came from late replacement James Toomey (5) and Louis Metcalf.

Squad: Adam Curtis, Ciaran Lindsay, William Rowlands, Josh Singleton,
Teddy Stevens, Jack Sadgrove, Sam Watson, Reagan McCarthy, Ryan Hawkins, Oliver Sargent, Louis Metcalf, James Toomey.
