GOAL FEAST! TD SPORTS 0 TONBRIDGE INVICTA 8 22.09.02 Spectators at the Sussex home of TD Sports were treated to a dazzling display of cool and effective finishing from their visitors from Kent. None more so than from Invicta striker Daniel Powell who netted five in this impressive victory. In fact for the first few minutes it was TD who dominated this encounter, as the Tonbridge side struggled to find their rhythm. However, it was not long before Daniel Powell was able to capitalise on some good through balls, and with 20 minutes gone he had grabbed a brace. While the home side did cause some scares in the Invicta defence at times, the rest of the first half was controlled by some neat team work by the Tonbridge midfield and forwards. A well constructed interchange between Daniel Powell and his fellow striker Luke Saunders released the latter into a one on one with the TD goalkeeper. Saunders went on to finish well and give Invicta a 3-0 lead by half time. The pattern of the game continued in the same vein for the duration of the second half. TD Sports huffed and puffed, but whenever Tonbridge put the ball down and passed they looked threatening. Daniel Powell had added two more well taken goals with only about 10 minutes played and then came the best goal of the match. Full back Matt Styles released Powell down the right. His speed took him swiftly to the byeline and he cut the ball back accurately for approaching midfielder Daniel Howse. Howse collected the ball and drilled it fiercely into the bottom left hand corner of to net from the edge of the penalty box to make it 6-0. Shortly afterwards Daniel Powell completed a good morning's work when he rounded the goalkeeper and slid the ball home, and right near the finish Invicta Captain Andrew Roberts dribbled in from the right and struck a low shot past the keeper to make the final score 8-0. To TD's credit they kept going and clearly possess some skilful players. However the Invicta defence became more dominant the longer the game went on. Man of The Match, centre back Jamie Hayes, had an exceptional second half and Invicta's Ben Fitzer in goal always looked solid, with his penetrating kicking proving to be a valuable weapon in the Tonbridge armoury. |
