In our last outing before the Jersey Festival we travelled away to Bermondsey & Rotherhithe on Saturday 5th April. It was an eventful match. With only seconds played we had conceded a goal. Their tactic of the long ball with pacey strikers chasing proved difficult to handle in the first half. This was how they scored their first and second goals. In between we did find an equaliser. Keir Beckett curled the ball in directly from a corner. We were only on even terms for about a minute, however. As the first period wore on, though, we grew in confidence and then had a purple patch when we scored 3 goals! The first two came from Keir Beckett corners again. First Matthew Hooker and then James Vurnum managed to slot the ball home inside the home six yard box. 3-2 to us. We went further ahead just before half time when Matthew Hooker grabbed his second and the team's fourth with a good shot from distance. At the break we looked in control at 4-2. They got one back in the second half when we gave the ball away at the back, but it seemed we were destined to hold on to the lead. Then with just 3 minutes left to go the referee gave them a penalty. This was most harsh on us. Bermondsey & Rotherhithe converted it to make the final score 4-4. Hard luck boys you deserved a victory. |
