We started the New Year's fixtures with a friendly against Hackney on Saturday 18th January at Cockmannings Lane.

The final scoreline simply did not reflect the evenness of the play. For the opening 15 minutes we seemed in control and then we had a mad five minutes when we conceded three! We managed to pull one back before half time when Keir Beckett hit a neat low strike into the corner of their net.

After the interval we got it back to 3-2 with a poacher's goal from James Vurnum,  and it looked like we might level the match for a while. Then came another mad five minutes towards the end when we let in a further two goals and eventually Hackney ran out 5-2 winners.

We deserved something out of the game so ultimately this was a most disappointing outing. There were some good performances though, and we must not lose confidence because of the result.
