Orpington & District v Ashford

On Saturday 2nd November our District team came up against Ashford in the first round of the Kent Cup.

In no time at all we found ourselves two goals behind but we were determined to come back and by half time had managed to level the scores. A super cross from Jack Cooper was clinically finished with his head by Tom Wadlow and we benefitted from a strange own goal which bounced off the Ashford goalkeeper and into the net following another cross.

Alter half time we had a purple patch and opened up a three goal lead. Harry Harding made it 3-2 with a good strike, then Tom Wadlow added a second, again with his head, and Sam Farmer gave us a 5-2 advantage with a deflected shot.

We were probably guilty of taking our foot off the gas at that point and Ashford battled the score back to 5-4. Just as it looked like the momentum might be with the away side, a great defence splitting pass from Keir Beckett found Tom Wadlow and he completed a superb hat-trick with a tidy finish to give us the tie 6-4.

Well played everyone who represented our District in this great Cup Tie. A most impressive victory.
