HOT FIESTA On the scorching morning of Sunday 20th July 2003 we acquitted ourselves very well in the Tonbridge Fiesta 6-a-side competition. Playing against some quality sides from both the Tandridge A and Kent leagues plus a Charlton Academy side, we were never outclassed and only lost one game out of six. That loss was against the eventual winners, Sutton United, and that was the result of a poor refereeing decision. We were also the only side in the league section to defeat the other finalists Tonbridge Angels. We won 3, drew 2 and lost one by a single goal. We managed to hold the Charlton team to a draw! If it hadn't been for a 50 minute delay in starting the competition that resulted in semi finals being cancelled we would have reached the Semi Finals as we finished fourth out of 11 teams. Typical of our luck. This was an excellent effort with the squad really pulling together and playing as a cohesive unit. We played some impressive football at times and certainly defended consistently well. It was great to see Nick Atkinson really settle into the team, score two good goals and make a very valuable contribution. Well played everyone involved: Andrew Roberts, Daniel Powell, Luke Saunders, Nick Atkinson, Ben Fitzer, Aaron Medgett, Jamie Hayes & Neil Wilson. Well done to the whole squad, though, for helping us prepare for this competition in training. |
