OVCS SITTARD 0     TONBRIDGE INVICTA   3

23.04.03

We celebrated St. George's Day in Holland in some style. This, the second game of our Tour, proved to be one of our best performances of the season.

We started like a proverbial train and, apart from a brief spell mid way through the first half, we never let up. All those qualities that a team needs to win a football match came together: determination, great team work with everyone pulling together, and of course great football. We played some delightful stuff at times, with the ball being played to feet and possession being retained.

After exerting considerable pressure we scored after only 10 minutes when Daniel Powell latched on to a poor clearance from Sittard. He cut inside the full back and finished well. We now began to move the ball about with some ease whilst remaining solid at the back.

Gradually Sittard settled and for about 10 minutes they began to threaten. With one or two scares we coped, however, and then got back on top before half time. We added a second at the perfect time, moments before the break. A lovely move looked like it had broken down but Daniel Powell's persistence won the ball back. He slipped the ball to Man Of The Match Tom Collins who had made an excellent run. Tom drew the keeper and then rolled a neat square ball for the advancing Jason Carrroll. He met the ball sweetly and side footed it with power into an open net. 2-0 at half time.

Our second half performance was enormously pleasing. Despite rotating the squad throughout we maintained an excellent shape and organisation. Sittard never really threatened again and we continued to play some exquisite football, using the full width of the pitch. In essence we probably should have scored two or three more. Aaron Medgett did put the ball in the net after the Dutch keeper dropped it, but the referee adjudged a foul to have taken place. In the end we had to content ourselves with just one more.

Daniel Powell made a darting run through the middle and called for a ball over the top. Jason Carroll duly obliged. Taking the ball high on the bounce Powell expertly lifted the ball just out of reach of the opposition goalkeeper and into the net.

There was about 10 minutes left but that goal effectively settled the affair. We continued to press forward and in many ways didn't want the game to end.

Well played everyone. This game showed just what we are capable of. At our best we are irresistible.
